What’s wrong with conventional popcorn bags?
• While some bags claim to be biodegradable, nearly 100% of existing popcorn bags are not compostable, and wind up in landfill. • Because of this, a surprisingly large amount of uneaten popcorn ends up in landfill too, releasing co2 into the atmosphere as it decomposes. • Most conventional bags use added PFAS for grease resistance. These ‘forever’ chemicals have been shown to leach out of food packaging, where they can contaminate food and cause serious health conditions. • Since PFAS don’t break down under any conditions, using them at all allows them to continue accumulating in the environment, where they contaminate water, crops, and jeopardize the health of all life on the planet. |
What’s great about our certified compostable popcorn bags?
• Our bags are made without the use of chlorine bleach, added PFAS, or petroleum plastics. • Only renewable plant-based materials are used to make the bags. (Paper, vegetable-based ink, and a starch-based, grease resistant lining). • Our bags are third-party certified to completely break down in commercial composting facilities, without any toxic trace left behind. • Composting our popcorn bags allows the carbon-rich materials used in their manufacture to be returned to the soil — along with any uneaten popcorn — where they both contribute to the cycle of new plant growth. |
